The use of graffiti on the background symbolises teenagers and ‘youth’. The background was chosen as this doorway for a variety of reasons. One of the main reasons is it was used as a few of the shots for the video, and we thought that if both the male and female were stood in the foreground it would add more emphasis. The graffiti that is in the door also symbolises a typical ‘teen’ which we found was good to use throughout the video to symbolise young youth and love. This was a second reason why we chose this as the background. Furthermore it draws the audience in, as it doesn’t really show much of what’s actually happening in the video; therefore making them more intrigued to find out more leading them to buy the single.
The female featured on the front is the character actually in the video as the male too. We thought it was good to use her at the front as it creates links between the poster and video, but also between the male character. The female is facing the male however looking down but smiling, this symbolises there definitely is some sort of connection or link between them both. The way she is stood also shows the relaxed state of a typical teenage girl. This gives the audience the view that there is certainly some sort of vibe. It attracts the audience in a way where they look at both the characters and not just one, also with the surroundings in full view.
The use of clothing for both the characters is in some way different; we thought this would be of great significance. It makes the audience aware of the differences between the two characters, and leads them to think of different personalities. It draws the audience in. The female is in a way wearing ‘urban’ clothing; typical for teenage girls, also the male is wearing ‘sporty’ clothing; typical for teenage boys. The colour contrasts between these outfits also has a major influence on the way the audience see the characters. It draws all their attention in.
The use of colour throughout the whole poster gives a sense of natural surroundings, and outside environment. The use of browns and greys gives this impression; this makes the audience aware of how naturalistic the video actually is.
The location of this shot was where the lip syncing took place for the video. There are bits and pieces of the video that have been filmed in this particular doorway, so for those who have already seen the video; they will be familiar with the environment. It adds a connection between the poster and the video which makes the audience more eager to watch the video, or interested to buy it.
We decided to use the wall that the male is leaning on to show that they are in a doorway, and leaning against something, but with the typical pose that a teenager does when standing. The same could be said about the female as she is leaning on the wall but on the opposite side. This shows they are both is some sort of arch doorway facing each other yet supported against the wall.
The male featured at the front is the character who is actually in the video. We thought it was good to use him on the front as it creates a link between the poster and the video as a whole. It’s just to make the audience more familiar with the characters and the video as those already aware of the song and the video will instantly be able to recognise the male. The fact that he’s stood leaning against the wall, facing the female represents the connection between them both.
The facial expressions are vital in the poster; we decided to have just the sides of the faces shown to show that they are facing each other. The male is looking towards the female character, but the audience don’t actually know if he is looking at the female. This makes the audience more eager to find out the story behind this. The female character is smiling slightly which connotes a typical teenage girl who’s happy.
We decided to use plain white font for our magazine advert. This is because we thought it looked good on the background, and also it was white font situated in the actual music video as well which relates well to the advert. It is placed in the middle of the poster, and at the top so that when the audience is to read the poster their eyes are ultimately going to look at the top and the writing, the size of the text is also good, it’s not too big, or small and in a way, easy to read because of the font used. The font is original and plain which goes well with our video as it is a simple yet naturalistic video as a whole.
We decided to write the name of the song at the bottom, as we didn’t want to make a distraction from the picture, with the male and female stood facing each other. The font is simple, and white; the same as the title with enough emphasis for the audience to read it but not have to look away from the middle of the page. We put any necessary information on so that the audience are aware of the release date etc.
We thought it would be a good idea to include the other track names from the album, to promote the full album and not just the one song, to show that it actually is a album and not just a single.
