Album cover and poster

Album covers for singles and their alternate posters are usually very similar in comparison, such as they often seem to have the same background, the same lighting, similar colours, and if the artists are in the picture, then they often wear the same clothes. The AC DC poster and matching CD cover is a clear example of the similar content used in posters and CD covers.

There are exceptions to this, and below are a collection of posters and CD covers that reflect this idea. The material below has influenced us as a guide to developing our own CD covers and posters for our music video. The hip-hop poster is not an item of advertisement from an artist for a particular CD, and so therefore has only inspired us for its use of effects and what content we could use for our poster.

Filming schedule

We have decided that because our location is a deserted area etc and we want to use early morning light, midday light and then evening (once the sun has set) We need to go at different intervals.

The first day we will be going to the location in the early hours of the morning to capture the sun just rising, where we will start the video of the couple walking towards each other.
After filming them scenes, we will be bringing it back to college to upload and see if there is any other shots that we need at that time in the morning.

The second day we will go to film when its midday so the lighting is different, and showing that the male and female are walking towards each other. However we need to keep in mind the drastic lighting change so make it go together and fit as they walk towards each other. We will upload the footage took on this day and see how much more shots need to be taken.

The third day we will go and film just when the sun sets, so in the video you can see the sun setting in the background but still the couple walking towards each other. We will then upload this the following day and see how much more is left for us to do.

Finally we will use the time left, to film the random shots to be put in when its the chorus, we need to do this with the green screen, and a dark room so we will use the theatre to do this. After completing this we will look at all the footage on the mac and take it from there about how much more need to be shot and what else we need to be doing.

Location shots

This is one of the shots from the location we have decided to film in, the reason we decided to film here is because of the bridges, and the water and natural surroundings which connote peace and love. This is why we thought this would be ideal. In this particular picture, the surroundings of the tree's and the pathway of the canal relates well to the music video due to the fact that the male and female both walk towards each other, will surroundings clearly visible.

This particular shot was done when the sun was setting, we thought that this would be ideal due to the music video having some sort of romantic feel to it, and the shot almost looks like a love scene, especiall with the tunnel view of the water and the lights in the distance.

At this location we came across quite a lot of walls that had graffiti on them, we thought we would add this in, as it represents young youth, and the fact that the male and female are both young, and then with the graffiti in the background symbolise the typical 'teen'. This is stereotypical, which is why we decided to add this into the video.

This show was actually quite good at the begining, however once we started filming we found it didnt really go well with the rest of our video partly due to the surroundings being buldings etc. So we decided to cut them out.

The shot of the bridge and the river undeneath was a good shot, and we decided to use it for both the male and female, this was because it added good emphasis not only to the surrounding but the song and video as a whole.

Again this shot was brilliant, however we didnt use this bit due to the fact that there were too many people around so we couldnt get the filming done properly because of the distractions.

This is the location we have chosen to shoot our video. It is a path which follows the canal in Manchester. We chose this because, firstly, our characters will be walking towards each other and so a path is a good way to show that, as the main focus is them meeting along the path. Secondly because it is a very secluded area, and we will not ant any other people in our shot. Finally, along the path there are many graffiti artworks, these will be in the shot to show youth.

mise en scene

The clothing and props to be used in our video.

The characters in the video will be two teenagers, one male and the other female. they will be dressed in typical modern looks, such as jeans etc. The main sequence is similar to a scene of a film so they will be wearing the same clothes throughout the sequence, for continuity purposes. But however the characters will have other clothes in other scenes as it is a different occasion to the scenario of the characters in the music video. For example when the characters are lip syncing or when there are perhaps crowd shots, also when we do the stop motion there will be slightly different lighting, props, clothing, and location to the primary sequence. The main sequence will not have a selection of props as it only involves the protagonists walking towards each other, although we will be using the lego for stop motion in another sequence

The lighting in our music video.

In the main sequence of the boy and girl beside the river, the lighting will be purely natural, with no artificial lighting to emphasize the realism of this particular sequence. However when they are lip syncing, we will be using extra lighting in the back to enhance the quality of the image when it is transferred into the music video. Also when we began filming, we went out to film on the more appropriate occassions when it was sunny, this was primarily to keep the happy, up beat nature of the song rather than going out on a rainy, gloomy day, this ensured that the camera would not become damaged also.

The location for our music video.

Our music video is going to be shot in a numerous variety of locations. We will be filming on the campus in a green room, this is where we will be able to do some of the lip syncing, we will also be able to do out stop motion in this room if we needed to, and it is the best available place for our group to control the lighting and environment as it has several large spotlights and other lights that we would be able to use. Also we will be filming beside a river as mentioned above, and as the images below suggest. There is a pathway next to the river which we will be using for the characters, and the path has lots of different "angles" that we could film from, such as the variation of steps, and bridges that we could use in the video for good mise en scene and imagery.

Images (storyboard and animatic)

Lyrics and overall plan

0:00 - 0:08
Alternate different clips just to set the scene of the opening of the music video.
Clips of the video overall but made faster and each up for less then a second.

0.08
A medium shot of the guy and then a medium shot of the girl in different places but in slow motion walking towards each other.
'Oh, reckless abandon' - setting in a abandoned place which adds to this sentence, when it gets to bit it will go black and white, and out of focus.
'Like no one's watching you' - a series of clips on different eyes, open and closed to connote the 'watching you' part. Screen, full of eyes.

01:06
'A moment' - lip sync which is in a series of medium shots, in abandoned setting, and a little green screen added.
'A love' - animation to symbolise the meaning of love
'A dream aloud' - lip sync
'A kiss, a cry' - animation to show the meaning of a kiss, a picture of an eye, and tears?
Rest if the chorus, lip sync behind green screen, and a few natural setting background.

01:22
The girl and boy walk towards each other, see the boy from the girls perspective and vice versa. over the shoulder shots of the boy and girl, unaware of the things going on around them, but focusing entirely on themselves

02:00
Once it gets to the chorus again, repeat as before; the lip syncing and the animation of the words to describe each one.

3:54
Both girl and boy, meet together right in the middle, can see the rest of the surrounding, but the boy meets girl and they're together at the end.

We have strongly considered using stop motion with lego to use as a sequence in some areas of our music video. Below is a video that has influenced our decision to make stop motion with the lego, it is also a good example of how we could use stop motion to great effect, and how long each shot should last.

Lyrics

Lyrics

0:08 Sweet disposition
Never too soon
Oh reckless abandon
Like no one's watching you

01:06 A moment, a love
A dream aloud
A kiss, a cry
Our rights, our wrongs
A moment, a love
A dream aloud

01:22 So stay there
Because i'll be coming over
While our bloods still young
So young, it runs
We wont stop till it's over
Wont stop to surrender

02:00 Songs of desperation
I played them for you
A moment, a love
A dream aloud
A kiss, a cry
Our rights, our wrongs
A moment, a love
A dream aloud

A moment a love
A dream a love

Shot List

The shot list is a precise plan of how we want our main sequence to look, this will include the approximate duration of each shot, what the camera is targeting (feet, face, body, building), what the mise en scene will include and lighting, what type of shot it is (close-up, long-shot, high/low-angle shot, canted-angle shot), what sound is going to sync with each shot (lyrics, instruments). It will also say the transition type between each shot if it is not a straight forward cut. This plan may change as we shoot the video, and some shots may be taken from the sequence.

0-8 - series of shots taken out from the final video, but played at high speed
8-10 - mid-shot of male walking from left to right of the screen. Natural daylight throughout sequence. Black and White edit.
10-12 - close-up of females face walking from the right side of screen to the left. Black and white edit.
12-16 - long-shot of the male character continuing walking. Black and White edit.
16-20 - mid-shot of the female character walking.
After the introduction the shots will become more varied in length and will continue to change in length to the speed of the song.
20-22 - long shot of the male character but in faster speed than the 12 second shot.
22-24 - Long shot of the female walking towards the male character, unaware if surroundings around her.
24- 30 - Full view shot of both the male and female walking towards each other, and then the surrounding shots of the view around them.
30- 34 - close up shot of the male walking, but in slow motion showing facial expressions.
34- 38 - Close up shot of the female walking, but in slow motion showing facial expressions.
38- 44 - In this part of the sequence, its going to be split screen, the female will be walking the opposite way to the male. So the female will be walking with her back towards the screen, and the male facing the screen.
44- 50 - establishing shot, of the surroundings, and then the male and female but in really small (showing mostly the surrounding) walking towards each other.
50-60 - Different cuts of all the shots of the male and female walking towards each other, Starting off really fast, and gradually going slow.
1:00- 1:06 - Tracking shots of both male and female walking towards each other.

Chorus starts:
1:06 - 1:22 - various clips in between this time to represent the chorus, there will be stop motion writing, signs, eyes, close up on mouth to represent singing. Maybe green screen.

1:22 - 2:00 - (back to the story as the beat picks up, and characters begin to walk faster towards each other. Tracking shot to follow both the male and female. Also cuts of medium shots in between of them both lip syncing.
2:00- 3:54 - Cuts are made faster, to go with the beat of the song as it picks up more pace. When chorus is repeated the same various pictures are used to show the meaning of the lyrics.
